The thyroid gland is a butterfly-shaped gland which is located at the base of the neck and is responsible for producing hormones which regulate metabolism, energy levels and even mood. A thyroid nodule is a lump or growth which forms within the thyroid gland. The nodules differ in various sizes, which are mostly non cancerous. However, a small percentage can be cancerous.
