Metabolic bone diseases are a set of conditions that impact bone strength. Mineral imbalances (such as excess or deficiency in calcium, phosphorous, or vitamin D) disrupt bone mass, development, and turnover. Factors affecting bone cell activity, such as hereditary disorders and vitamin inadequacies, typically generate bone imbalances that weaken bone. Metabolic bone disease may be congenital or acquired.
